Fallen Skier
I know that Fallen Skier is almost 13 minutes long. I know that it is hard to listen to and not pleasant. I know that the song is almost a short story. I know that it is not something you can just listen to in the background and enjoy. Even with all of these things, you should still listen to Fallen Skier by Mecca Normal.
This is the best song I have ever heard about going on a bad internet date. Jean Smith perfectly captures all of the emotions of going on a date with a person who is totally wrong for you. Like a bad date, the song just keeps going and going and going. The narrator is trying to find something redeeming in her date, but she cannot.
The Fallen Skier, the man going on the date with the singer is both ridiculous and sympathetic at the same time. You wonder how anyone can be this way, yet you can see the Fallen Skier in people you have known. In the end the narrator is sad because this is the kind of person she is having dates with. This rings very true to me.
