I have been listening to the Wolf Parade album Apologies to the Queen Mary a lot lately. I think this is another example of how Sub Pop has a good ear for talent. I am not sure they are for everyone. It has a lot of low-fi rough edges. I just know that I cannot stop listening to this album.
Are there any snacks, food or candy that are no longer made that you desperately miss?
I have not seen a Good Humor Candy Crunch ice cream bar in a long time. That was my favorite.
New Mountian Goats, M. Ward, and Magnolia Electric Co. all in the same weeks. That is an interesting week. All of these albums are availble from eMusic also. This would be a good month's worth of music. That would be a good reason to sign up.
I will let everyone know what I think about these albums after I listen to them some.
I am amazed the song Rock Star by Hole has held up so well over the past 10 years. This is such a great song. It is still one of my favorite songs of the 90s. Whenever I hear it I turn it all the way up and sing along.
I think this album, Live Through This, is the last grunge album. It was released just days before Kurt Cobain died. This is the point where the early 90s and the focus on Generation X started to come to a close. In 1995 the biggest musical acts where Ace of Base, Coolie, and Hootie & The Blowfish. Since I was in college during the whole grunge era, it is somewhat important to me.
I love the lyrics of this song. They still speak to me:
When I went to school in olympia
And everyones the same
We look the same
We talk the same
Even when we try to make ourselves different, we end up making ourselves the same.
Sometimes I hear a song and it just clicks. The song sings about a truth that is deep inside of you. Everytime you hear it you think it is just a little more true. The Drive By Trucks song World Of Hurt is one of those songs. It is making a strong case for being my song of
A WORLD OF HURT
Once upon a time, my advice to you would have been go out and find yourself a whore
But I guess I've grown up, because I don't give that kind of advice anymore
Gonna be a world of hurt / Gonna be a world of hurt / Gonna be a world of hurt
I was 27 when I figured out that blowing my brains wasn't the answer
So I decided, maybe I should find a way to make this world work out for me
And my good friend Paul was 83 when he told me; that "To love is to feel pain"
And I thought about that then and I've thought about that again and again
Gonna be a world of hurt / Gonna be a world of hurt / Gonna be a world of hurt
"To love is to feel pain" there ain't no way around it
The very nature of love is to grieve when it is over
The secret to a happy ending is knowing when to role the credits
Better role them now before something else goes wrong
No, it's a wonderful world, if you can put aside the sadness
And hang on to every ounce of beauty upon you
Better take the time to know it there ain't no way around it
If you feel anything at all
Gonna be a world of hurt / Gonna be a world of hurt / Gonna be a world of hurt
So if what you have is working for you, or you think that it can stand a reasonable chance, and whatever's broken seems fixable and nothing's beyond repair
If you still think about each other and smile before you remember how screwed up it's gotten or maybe dream of a time less rotten
Remember, it ain't too late to take a deep breath and throw yourself into it with everything you got
It's great to be alive
Gonna be a world of hurt / Gonna be a world of hurt / Gonna be a world of hurt

Tell us a little something about your first car. Do you have any photos you can share?
Submitted by tamara.
My first call was a 1988 Plymouth Reliant K. My dad bought it to be his car when I was in high school. He gave it to me when I was in college. I loved that car. It was the perfect first car for me. I drove it a lot. By the time I died it had over 300,000 miles on it. College and Home were about 100 miles away from each other. I covered those 100 miles many times.
The Drivers Side Door kept on falling off that car. It was in a fender bender and it was never the same again. The pin in the door hinge kept on getting sheared. I replaced that pin more times than I could count.
There has to be a photo of my car somewhere, I just do not have a copy.
E-music has just added Drag City Records. One of my favorite albums of this decade is on Drag City Records, Joanna Newsom - The Milk-Eyed Mender. I spend much of my life thinking that the people in the popular media do not experience the world the way I do. I can only think that Joanna Newsom feels the same way. There is a beauty in her music that is easily over looked by convention. Bridges and Balloons, Peach Plum Pear, and The Book of Right-On are all wonderful songs. I can say that her music makes me feel a way that I cannot describe. When I hear her songs I want to turn the volume all the way up and sing from the top of my lungs. You should really check it out for yourself.
"This is unlike the story it was written to be."
