Back in 2001 I made someone a Christmas gift of a whole bunch of Single Artist Mix CDs. I just found the list of bands. The idea was that these were bands who defined me as a music lover. The ideas was if she was thinking of me she could pop in one of these mixes to feel closer to me.

Don't Fade On Me

I have been listening to a lot of sad music lately. It seems to fit my mood. This is the title track of the new Magnolia Electric co album. This album will find a track on my best of 2006 mix.

The album is great because it is lean. It is only nine tracks. There is not a track on the album that I ever want to skip. Every moment of the album is great.

I know that alt.country is not for everyone. I still think this album is really worth a listen.

Apologies to the Queen Mary

I have been listening to the Wolf Parade album Apologies to the Queen Mary a lot lately. I think this is another example of how Sub Pop has a good ear for talent. I am not sure they are for everyone. It has a lot of low-fi rough edges. I just know that I cannot stop listening to this album.

Best Songs of the 90s

12 Rock Star

I am amazed the song Rock Star by Hole has held up so well over the past 10 years. This is such a great song. It is still one of my favorite songs of the 90s. Whenever I hear it I turn it all the way up and sing along.

I think this album, Live Through This, is the last grunge album. It was released just days before Kurt Cobain died. This is the point where the early 90s and the focus on Generation X started to come to a close. In 1995 the biggest musical acts where Ace of Base, Coolie, and Hootie & The Blowfish. Since I was in college during the whole grunge era, it is somewhat important to me.

I love the lyrics of this song. They still speak to me:

When I went to school in olympia
And everyones the same
We look the same
We talk the same

Even when we try to make ourselves different, we end up making ourselves the same.

Top 10 Musical Acts who I would pay to see live
After seeing Death Cab for Cutie live I figure that it is time to update my list of Bands that I would pay to see who I have not seen yet list. Bands are getting added to this list faster than they are being dropped. That means either I am not true to my word or bands are not touring enough.

Every once in a while a lyric really makes my ears perk up. The song writer just captures an idea perfectly. Whenever I hear this line I just stop and think about this idea. No matter what else is going on in my line, the lyrics just stop my brain. That is something I look for in song writing.

I think that <a href="http://www.emusic.com/album/10899/10899073.html">Destroyer's Rubies</a> is a good reason to join eMusic. It is an enjoyable ablum. I think anyone who likes <a href="http://www.emusic.com/artist/11534/11534642.html">The New Pornographers</a> would like <a href="http://www.emusic.com/artist/11524/11524819.html">Destroyer</a>.
